The Uncanny Valley is a phrase often employed by CGI animators to describe the seemingly impassable gulf between reality and simulated reality, when it comes to recreating humans in a computer. Get it wrong, and CGI figures sport a creepy, dead-eyed oddness which fails to convince.

Thought it was safe to read this article in work. I just snorted so loud that I'm now afraid to leave my desk for fear of violent reprisals. I held it together as far as Jedward then lost it completely.
