MAD MAX: SAVAGE ROAD - TRAILER ANALYSIS

29/5/2015

As we ascertained the other day, you've probably all seen Mad Max: Fury Road - as is only proper for a film of such significant absurdity. Next comes Mad Max: Savage Road, the similarly-named, but not-the-same story, video game, due later this year.

A new trailer has just been released. We've watched it and analysed the imagery so that you don't have to. Read on for our breakdown.
0.05 - The Man With No Razor (But He Does Know A Decent Barber, Apparently)
Picture
There he is, look - Nathan Drake, standing there looking smouldering amid the debris of a great galactic battle. You can just see the wreckage of a Star Destroyer in the background... No. Wait. We may have that wrong - perhaps that's meant to be Mad Max (it's short for "I'm Bloody Mad I Am - To The Maximums"), and that's Australia, or Zanzibar, or wherever those films are meant to be set.
0.08 - Brrm brrm!
Picture
Here they are then: the first look at some cars, as Max runs to his famous VO5 Interceptor, clutching a large handbag, or a tank of fuel, or something. It's a bit difficult to tell with the sun in our eyes.
0.08 - Aieeeee! It blinds!
Picture
Where would modern video games be without an excessive use of sunsets? We'll tell you where: right up in a tramp's groin.
0.14 - Who Dis Guy?
Picture
We think this is one of those pale young fellows from the film. Look at the bandages on his hands: perhaps he touched a hot pan, or something.
0.15 - Use The Force, Max!
Picture
Max is so cool he doesn't have to look where he's aiming. Or make any discernible facial expressions. Imagine being in a relationship with him; you'd never know if he was happy, or angry, or what. Awful. Just awful. Imagine the anxiety.
0.16 - It's Coming Right At Us!
Picture
Maybe those pale young fellows aren't all bad - this one has kindly reached into Max's car to scrub the side of his face, using a rag on a stick.
0.19 - Uh-Oh! That escalated fast...
Picture
We note that Max is wearing leg callipers. What is this - a Max Max game, or Forrest Gump: The Early Years?
0.22 - Monster Truck Rally
Picture
We're guessing this is the big bad guy of the game. He's bald, covered in chains and tattoos, and he's shirtless. We know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but still... Would you sit next to somebody like that on a bus?
0.23 - Well, Beep My Horn!
Picture
Well now. Is that a rhinoceros standing behind you, or are you just pleased to see us? Also, who carries a severed head around with them? Unless it's a novelty handbag of some sort. It doesn't look like he has pockets in those filthy trousers, so that makes a certain degree of sense.
0.25 - Now What's Going On?
Picture
The action then cuts to whom we assume to be a now-shaven Max in a bathroom, about to inspect a lavatory.
0.27 - Surprise!
Picture
Much to Max's surprise, the lavatory contains a green space goblin. We wonder what'll happen next...
0.31 - Oh nooooo! Nonononooooo!
Picture
The space goblin has cast a spell on Max, causing him to fall in the bath! Oh noo! Noooo noooooo!
0.35 - Max! Come down from there, Max!
Picture
Now trapped near the top of the bathroom, Max panics. "Help me!" he cries, in German. "I am trapped up near the ceiling! Help me get down!". Calm down, Max!
0.37 - Uh-oh! At Least Max Got Down!
Picture
Well, Max got what he wanted - he's down from the ceiling at least, but back in the bath with a bucket on his head! Oh, Max!
0.40 - Gritty Title Screen

Not happy about the direction Mad Max is going in. The WOMEN in Fury Road were bad enough, being allowed to have character development and clothing throughout the film, but now we have GOBLINS? And men speaking in GERMAN? When will this (non-Max) Madness end?
