Good news, dogs! After numerous false starts 20 years ago, virtual reality is at last on the cusp of becoming a thing that everyone can enjoy - even dogs, probably.

With Sony's announcement that PlayStation VR will be out later this year, virtual reality no longer risks being an elitist proposition. It finally has the potential to be huge, even if you're a dog, perhaps.

Here's everything dogs need to know about Sony's new technology - including where they can pre-order it, and just how excited they should be based upon the excitement levels of other dogs.

10. PlayStation VR will be released in October, priced at £349.99.

9. To use the PlayStation VR you'll need a PlayStation Camera. You'll be able to use a Dualshock 4 controller to play the games, though some games will be compatible with the PS Move controllers - and will boast additional control features specific to Move. Sony has hinted that it will sell bundles featuring the camera and Move controllers, but has yet to confirm pricing.

8. The PSVR boasts "a custom OLED screen that displays images at a super-smooth 120Hz, 360-degree vision and true 3D audio that lets you pinpoint sounds all around you". If that means anything to you... well... good.

7. Using something called Social Screen, you'll be able to project what you see in your headset onto a TV screen. Other players - in the same room as you, but lacking a headset - will then be able to you join in the game, playing via the TV. Or something like that. We didn't entirely understand any of the explanations we read to be honest.

6. Confirmed PlayStation VR games include RIGS Mechanized Combat League, Battlezone, Rez Infinite, EVE: Valkyrie, and VR Worlds - an anthology of several VR experiences, including some sort of armed robbery simulator, and street luge.

5. In total, Sony has promised around 50 PSVR games will be released between October and the end of 2016. Which seems like an absurd amount, and far more than a new technology platform can support, so we'd take it with a pinch of salt.

4. A special VR edition of Star Wars Battlefront will be exclusive to the PlayStation VR. Whether it'll feature new maps has yet to be revealed. Either way: good.

3. Though costing a few hundred pounds less than either  the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive (not including the two grand's worth of PC kit you'll also need to run them), the PlayStation VR will be less powerful than either.

2. Game is already accepting online pre-orders for the PSVR. You can sign up... here: here.

1. One more thing about PlayStation VR that you simply must know... Playstation VR is not available for dogs.
