This year marks the 22nd anniversary of March 17th 1997. What was special about that date? It was the day that this mostly unremarkable edition of Digitiser aired! Well, I say unremarkable. It contains our preview of Killer Instinct Gold on the N64 at least, and evidence of our most legendary competition, Brown Trumpet.

Go now: use your eyes, child. Read the Digitiser. And then go and thank that sweaty oaf @ZXGuesser for digging it up.

March 17th 1997 was my 13th Birthday!

Back in the glory days of the N64 playing Mario 64, what great memories of being a kid!

It doesn't matter how many ti.es I check these before e-mailing/tweeting I always spot a bunch more recovery errors immediately after they go live 😫

It just adds to the authenticity.

It definitely adds to it. I think modern websites could learn from this, you never know what joys will turn up from a stray letter here or there. 'Womb Raider?' 'Top Games You Can Bum This Christmas?' 'Pie Hard Trilogy?'

Priceless.

Now you're making me think I should have left them in!
One genuine recovery error in the charts page was DIK HARD. Another was that famous game about shooting ducks with rocket launchers, QUAKK...

Now that's a vintage Playstation chart right there. We must've played all those round my mate's house, people would bring their own games, my mate didn't own them all. Really fond memories of Cool Boarders and it's very cool-ly voiced "UEP Systems" logo when it loaded.

Where did all the snowboarding games go? We were so cool back in 97.

1997 was a vintage year. It was only just a couple of years ago, right?

Yeah. Don't worry about all these young looking people. They're your peers. None of us are relics well past our prime. I'd write more but I have to get off the dial up so my dad can ring our gran, who's still alive.

Presumably it was the 'links' (such as they are on teletext) on the Charts pages to P100 that got Biffo in trouble with the teletext sub-editors?

Interesting that there actually was an attempt to port Tomb Raider 2 to the Saturn. I had just assumed that Core didn't even think it was worth trying for commercial reasons.

Which makes them possibly the only developer in the West outside Sega to prefer it.

That weekend, i was in the middle of nowhere in Co. Galway with my colleagues on an unofficial work "do" . We played much Quake. Drank much beer. "JTM was gibbed by Jyg's pineapple" is still my favourite pwnd message. There were no snakes. Happy times.

"CPU drain from the RF modulator" sounds like classic Dr. Who speak. Did they try reversing the polarity of the neutron flow?

Good to see you do the, "Outside and insane marketing" thing before Pewdiepie and T-series. Always the trail blazer that Digitiser.

How did Gerry Ross write a letter claiming it was 17th March, and get it published on the 17th? Surely it would at the very least have had to be written the day before to get into that edition?
