E3: DISHONORED 2 TRAILER "LOOKS NICE"

16/6/2015

We rather liked Dishonored, though failed to get through the last section and complete the game, because we have ADHD, and find stealth impossible. One of the things we particularly liked about the game was its distinct visual style.

Dishonored 2 - announced at E3 yesterday - appears to be taking a slightly more photorealistic route. That said, it's impossible to tell how much of the footage is from the game engine.

Probably none of it, because all games publishers are ghastly liars. Anyway... click off.

E3: FOR HONOR REVEAL TRAILER "LOOKS NICE"

Not every game at E3 was a remake or a sequel: UbiSoft revealed For Honor - a multiplayer-focused RPG, which could easily have been titled 'Knights Vs Samurai Vs Vikings'. Superficially, it looks a bit like Dynasty Warriors.

When's it coming out? Nobody knows this. Click onwards for the trailer.

E3: FINAL FANTASY 7 REMAKE TRAILER "LOOKS NICE"

For fans of seminal PlayStation RPG Final Fantasy 7, one of the highlights of the Sony E3 conference was the announcement of a Final Fantasy 7 remake. In all honesty, we never really got the fuss about the Final Fantasy series. But then, it appears we dislike most things for the sake of it these days.

Still, the news that members of the original FF7 team will be embarking on the remake will doubtless add further sauce to the sandwich (© Paddy McGuinness 2013). No release date has been mentioned, let alone confirmed, suggesting that this won't be coming to the PS4 anytime soon.

E3: MASS EFFECT - ANDROMEDA TRAILER "LOOKS NICE"

Among the many, many "coming in 2016" games announced at E3 yesterday, Mass Effect Andromeda was certainly one of them.

A fresh start for the series, following the conclusion of the first Mass Effect trilogy, the Andromeda trailer shows this: space stuff and that.

What would be really funny is if the game was actually called 'Ass Effect'. Pfft. You don't get well good quality gags/journalism like that on Polygon or Kotaku. Cliccccckk.

E3: SONY ANNOUNCES SHENMUE KICKSTARTER

16/6/2015

Overshadowed by the euphoria that greeted the news, one of the more bizarre aspects of Sony's E3 conference was the announcement of a Kickstarter campaign to fund Shenmue 3. Though we confess to never being quite as in love with the Shenmue franchise as some - great atmosphere, coupled to lots of dull walking around and quick-time events - it clearly has its fans.

Why Sony should use its E3 platform to announce the game is anyone's guess, mind.

"We can unfold the continuous story," wept Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki. "Shenmue 3 will be the story you have waited for. The fate of Shenmue is in your hands now."

The game has already edged close to its $2 million target. Click onwards to join the party.

E3: UNCHARTED 4 FOOTAGE "LOOKS REALLY NICE"

By its own admission, Sony's 2015 PlayStation 4 release schedule may be about as abundant with wares as a bad orchard/metaphor, but 2016 is shaping up to improve matters significantly.

New gameplay footage of Uncharted 4:  A Thief's End was laid bare at Sony's E3 press conference, suggesting it has the chops to be the sort massive-selling blockbuster that Sony will need in the face of a seemingly reinvigorated Xbox One. Click to see. E3: GEARS OF WAR 4 GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE "LOOKS NICE"

Gears of War 4 - or simply 'Gears 4' as it appears to be titled - looks like it'll do everything you expect from a Gears of War game.

In short: grim, gritty, beautifully-lit, and sporting the sort of ridiculously large guns the series has become known for. Click along for video evidence of these things of which we speak.

E3: THE LAST GUARDIAN VIDEO "LOOKS NICE"

As exciting as the news is that the third game in the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus series is coming to the PS4, Sony wasn't able to confirm a release date, other than a vague "2016".

Still... The Last Guardian does look like a highly lovely thing. Again... click click clickington clicksy.

E3: MICROSOFT HOLOLENS VIDEO "LOOKS INTERESTING"

The biggest news to come out of E3 so far is the announcement that Microsoft is to make the Xbox One backwardly compatible with the 360, via a free software update.

Frankly, if they wanted to stick it to Sony's PS4, they couldn't have done a better job. Sony's presentation may have unveiled The Last Guardian, but was otherwise devoid of jaw-dropping announcements.

Also interesting... if not entirely selling us on the concept... was Microsoft's Hololens jamboree, which featured some sort of new "tabletop" version of Minecraft. Click through for the slightly awkward demonstration, by two people who have absolutely no chemistry.

E3: FIFA 16 VIDEO "LOOKS NICE"

The big news about EA's FIFA 16 is that it's going to feature women players - motion-captured using real, football-playing women, because apparently that's a thing now.

Also: all the usual incremental improvements, including an appearance from Kevin Spacey as beleaguered FIFA president Sepp Blatter. Do you think his urban street friends ever go up to him and say "'Sup, Blatter?'. Click through for the video.

E3: MIRROR'S EDGE CATALYST VIDEO "LOOKS NICE"

Well... we're sure Mirror's Edge Catalyst will be absolutely lovely, but the focus in this launch footage seems to be on combat and story - two aspects of the original which had nothing to do with why we loved the game.

Also, it looks a bit on the dark side, adopting more of a Blade Runner look, over the original's sublime, and utterly original, minimalism. Still... nice music, guy. Click through for it. Click through!

And thus begins the rolling out of the E3 footage. Kicking us off is EA's Star Wars Battlefront, which - as soon you shall see - looks really nice. Suspiciously nice in fact, especially the one set on Tatooine, or wherever.

Don't expect it to be quite so smooth and photorealistic when splayed out on your Xbox One and PS4. Click through for vids.

DOOM "4" REVEALED

15/6/2015

Picture
E3 has begun, so you can look forward to a week or so of all the proper games journos rubbing our face in the fact they got to go to Los Angeles and we didn't. You can also expect a ton of new games to be unveiled. Among the first to dribble out of the E3 news-pipe is Id's brand new Doom game.

Set once again on Mars, gameplay footage of Doom 4 - it'll be released simply as Doom - seems to suggest a move away from the claustrophobic setting of Doom 3 (borrowed since by the likes of Dead Space) for more open environments. If anything, the colour palette brings to mind Quake 2.

Click through for that footage what we just gone and mentioned.
