I have just been chuckling while hidden in a toilet cubicle at work to read this. I thank you for this.

Did you actually obtain (or still own from before) a Jaguar to review that game?

I got me a ROM.

I had a Jaguar. Its version of Wolfenstein was great, and AvP was excellent too. But the rest...

I still can't hear the phrase "Where did you learn to fly?" without wanting to smash a television into tiny, tiny bits.

Wot, no Tempest 2000?

Oooh, good call! Although I never managed to get a copy of it for myself.

The playstation version, Tempest X3, is slightly more available and esoteric to get playing than finding an old Jaguar copy, and console to play it on. It has slight differences BUT also features a cheat code to get the Tempest 2000 version, which is all but identical to the Jaguar original.

Ah, you've watched that episode of the Angry Videogame Nerd as well. I doubt you actually owned a Jaguar yourself and the game.

It absolutely warms my heart to get a real-deal fresh bout of Digi every day this week. Thanks Biffo - it's helping me appreciate how much influence your writing style has had on my own over the years.

Plus, back in '93 I won a Hot Topic letter prize of an Edge subscription that turned me into a right snobby gamer. Cheers!

I, too, becamse a snooty gamer because of Edge... but eventually just started skimming through it for the review scores. All I ever really read properly was RedEye and Biffovision, for its brief run. What a waste of money! I blame the Internet for destroying my attention span.

TL;DR.

Same here. When Biffo left, I took at look at how much I really read the content in Edge. It was the last games magazine I picked up regularly, but in the end I couldn’t justify that much money for old news, reviews I didn’t really need (not that reviews are inherently useless, but to me they didn’t present much value), and no demo disc. Now I only pick up Retro Gamer when there’s a really good feature.

Actually, the only publication I now buy regularly is the Fortean Times.

Great to see the return of Violet. I haven't even been able to touch Mario Odyssey yet thanks to Zelda and Splatoon 2.

I remember an episode of Bad Influence where they played an online match of Mechwarrior (or something that looked like it) against someone on the other side of the world, then phoned them up to have a chat about it!

If I remember correctly, the verdict was that it was all very novel but, not being in the same room as your opponent, it probably wouldn't catch on.

Kind of wish Biffo had posted these as full size animated GIFs, with a massive delay between each frame.

Yes, with a massive delay, but then two pages later, it goes by inexplicably fast so you have to reload the whole cycle again.

@Randy Shackleford:
As you say, Capcom swapped the boxer’s name from M Bison to Balrog as they were afraid of legal action or getting their ears bitten off (even though that wouldn’t happen to Holyfield for several years).

Unlike Doctor Robotnik/Eggman, those characters have kept their original names in Japan and their non-original names elsewhere. This is confusing and annoying for the very international Fighting Game Community, so you’ll often see fighting game people refer to them as Claw, Dictator and Boxer for simplicity.

Nice one cheers. That makes both total sense, yet at the same time none at all. What a massive faff for such a popular and long-running game series.

There's kinda no going back now because of how brilliantly the current voice actor goes "Fear the mighty Bison".

For further confusing fun, the upcoming 30th anniversary compilation of classic Street Fighter games is being released in Japan with the Western versions of all the games, including all the Western character names, which is going to confuse people here no end. The series is actually run by Capcom US these days, not Japan. So which version is now canon is anyone’s guess.

But Violet, of course Mario flies in Mario 64... The art on the game cart and box is the first giveaway!

I’m loving Digi Teletext week thus far. It’s flapping my tickle chops unfathomably hard.

This is soooooo glorious. Incredibly heartwarming after a fairly lacklustre return to work today.

Mario 64 power-ups? Flying, yes, going all metal and stompy/sinky, that was another.

I loved my Jaguar.
AvP was incredible, linking two machines to play Doom was incredible, Tempest 2000 was SO TRIPPY it was incredible, Iron Soldier was...okay. And there was a 3D driving game that was pure shoite...
But I loved my Jaguar.

I played a ROM of Tempest 2000 once (shh) but kept dying after about 15 seconds. Clearly there was something I was missing? Or did I just not git gud?

It starts fairly gentle, so perhaps you missed one or more of:

- Collecting every power up.
- Jumping over danger.
- The Superzapper smart bomb.

Yup, powerups and jumping.

Totally worth it just for the trippy bonus levels...the sound, the visuals...if I could have lived in one of those bonus levels, I would have, and I'd have been The Most Chilled And Focused Man On The Planet.

To be fair, the fight would be pretty short and messy if car jaguar was inside cat jaguar.
