I'm really looking forward to traffic coordinator simulator. My lifelong dream, fulfilled.

I tried two VR games on a friend's Oculus dev unit last year. Although they were called Elite:Dangerous and Alien:Isolation, all I recall is a strangely speckled, rather lo-res, but utterly realistic Vomit Induction Simulator.

Perhaps it's because I wear glasses, and couldn't realistically combine spectacles and VR headset. Perhaps it's because I get motion sickness even on some non-VR 60fps FPS titles (deliberate dual use of the acronym there...)

Sad to say I'm unlikely to ever truly benefit from immersive VR, but some day it will be huge (and presumably this won't just refer to the bulky headsets).

It's not your imagination. The resolution is far too low to create a level of clarity that one is used to on a monitor.

The Oculus dev kit had a lower resolution than the CV or Vive but my Vive is still way below what I deem to be acceptable.

This hurts games like Elite which were designed initially to be used on a regular screen.

Because so few people have headsets and development will therefore be restricted, those type of titles are one of the best sources of full depth-games as opposed to the tech demos that VR is plagued by. Having such games look so poor and often be unusable because the resolution is too low to read text or discern details is a real killer blow to VR.

It emphasises how many games are better on a monitor than on the current generation of headsets due to technical deficiencies with the headsets as opposed to a problem with VR in general.

The Vive/PSVR are supposed to be better for spectacles than the Rift CV but I had no trouble with the DK2.

Motion sickness will always hinder VR games where your eyes see one thing and your inner ears feel another.

The technology will improve. Flat screens will see diminishing returns now from resolution gains above 4K. The VR headsets will eventually be able to grow and achieve close-to-parity in terms of definition.

At that point they will be a niche item for simulator players I suspect. An alternative to triple screens for the type of people that play iRacing or air combat games competitively.

From what bits I've seen of reviews, the PSVR seems to be the only one that's comfortable to wear with glasses... although comfortable is a relative term when having a lump of tech strapped to your face and as an offset it suffers from fogging up more than the others.

Nosulus Rift might be a more suitable VR headset for that: http://nosulusrift.ubisoft.com/
