Here are 12 times Mr Blobby appeared, on his endless quest for the delicious meat of the older sheep.

Why, thank you for the belated birthday wishes! The mutton is in the corner by the bins.

And in the TV show Boon, starring alongside Michael Elphick was Noel (Neil) Morrissey!

My cousin, Arch, as producer of House Party, was at least partly responsible for Blobby, the tit.

I'm so sorry. That must make family occasions very difficult.

I still remember when the old PMS warehouse burnt down. Walking home from school while the air was filled with the stench of 1000s of inflatable (and seemingly highly flammable) Mr Blobbys meeting a fiery doom.

It was on Newsround and everything. Apparently it could be seen from the ISS.

I used to bloody love going to the local 'rides n' funnelcakes' park Pleasurewood Hills when I was a kid. You know the kind of thing: lots of travelling fairground rides affixed in place, and an unnecessary, unexplained Americana theme. I'm trying to be cynical but it's not going to take: In reality, it was pretty big and I absolutely loved it. Yeah, there were a few travelling fairground rides (which were great), but they had loads of original stuff, like roller coasters, a log flume, and 'Main Street': mock-1920's shops and arcades, old-timey cars, and that staple of the pre-depression American high street, a vertical death slide.

When Noel's laughable, actually-once-extant Crinkly Bottom theme park* went under, he bought the then-ailing Pleasurewood Hills, turned the Haunted Castle into Crinkly Bottom Castle, and from that day forth the place was absolutely rotten with Blobby merch: not just in every shop, not just in every restaurant and snack bar, but every ticket booth and even the rides themselves were used to try and sell desperately unwanted Blobby mugs and Blobby notebooks and Blobby toys and Blobby books and Blobby clothes, and everywhere, on every surface, cheap, dust-covered Blobby masks.

Remember how quickly everyone started to hate Mr Blobby? Like not just people disregarding and ignoring him, but people reacting to any passing mention of him like the death rattle of their only child? His Christmas song came out in 1993. The Pleasurewood Hills takeover was like 1996. NOTHING was selling, and for me at least, the park was left irreversibly befouled, a proud little park lowered to a sordid and tacky grave, for an ugly detriment best left forgotten.**

PMS warehouse was an inside job.

*reminder that Noel's hubris bamboozled him into thinking he was going head to head with Disney, or at least Asterix.

**I haven't been in about 20 years it might be really good again now

I wonder if Noel Edmonds used cosmic ordering to summon this nightmarish pink beast to our world?

And have you seen his new show Cheap Cheap Cheap? What the Frak (BBC Micro or Acorn Electron) is going on there?

I was sure Noel was a dead cert to get rounded up by Operation Yewtree.
I even put money on it. And I'm not a betting man as a rule.
I might have to start a filthy lie.
